** Cardboard Box House ** |
Build Your Own House!
This craft is fun to make and stimulates imaginations!
It may look like a pile of boxes to you, but to your child,
it's a fabulous four story mansion! (or a four story firehouse! ;o))
Cardboard box house
Materials Needed:
old cardboard boxes
(shoeboxes, 12 pack boxes,
boxes from cases of drinks, really
any kind of cardboard you can find)
masking tape and/or glue
(we used both)
scissors
any decorating materials
you have around the house
we used glitter, paint,
glue and scrap fabric
|
|
Instructions for our Cardboard House
1. cut your boxes to size (this would be mom or dad's job)
-we used boxes that were no deeper than a shoe box
2. decorate each box that you want to use...
paint on rugs, pictures on the wall, cut out windows, add stairs,
paint the walls...anything you want!
3. take one box, put it with another...oh wait, that's "Out of the Box!" LOL
but really, just start taping boxes together (we also glued the boxes before
taping them, just for added strength)
4. Play!
(extra thoughts- the dollhouse in the picture started out as a one story house
a few weeks later, Julia decided to add another 2 floors, and the last
floor came a few days later. After that, she was forced to build out,
instead of up! ;o) We have also added dollhouse furniture that Julia
painted herself. You can find unpainted dollhouse furniture at any craft
store for about a buck a piece!)

1. Using your awl or other sharp tool, poke one hole in the center
of the bottom of the can, and one hole in the center of the lid.
2. Tie one end of the other rubberband to a washer using a slipnot
and string the other end through the bottom of the can, so the washer
acts like a stopper. (as shown above on the top of the can)

on your heavy nuts.
4. Tie that rubber band tight to the middle of the rubber band that you
