Holiday Crafts and Seasonal Crafts

**Halloween Craft Idea**
This fun Halloween craft can be adapted to ANY holiday or just any day!

Spooky "Stained Glass" For Kids

Materials Needed:


1 sheet typing paper

baby oil or mineral oil

construction paper
(black for this project)
OR
a paper plate painted black
(we used plates)

a couple q-tips

scissors

markers

glue

on top 'Mom's version'

on bottom 'Kid's version'

Instructions

1. cut spooky eye holes in your painted paper plate or construction paper
2. cut 2 rectangles from the typing paper large enough to cover the holes you cut
...in the construction paper or paper plate
3. color your rectangles any color you want with markers (yellow looks good and
...spooky)
4. pour a tiny amount of oil into a small container (a capful will be more than enough)
5. use your q-tip to 'paint' the oil onto your colored rectangles (this makes them
...translucent)
6. let the rectangles dry
7. after the rectangles are dry, glue each rectangle over each eye hole, from the back ...of the plate or construction paper
8. to make the eyes more lifelike, cut small circles from the scraps of black paper
...or painted paper plate to use as pupils and glue them to the rectangles
9. hang in the window and let your spooky eyes spook everyone that walks by

**an X-tra tidbit**
How can you make this even cooler?
1.cut out nose and mouth holes too and add different colored rectangles to those!
2. paint a paper plate orange and make a pumpkin with 'stained glass' eyes,
nose and mouth!
3. Use your imagination and the ideas are endless~Have Fun!

**Holiday Craft Idea **
This craft can make a wonderful gift!

Holiday Bell

Materials Needed:


small terra cotta pot w/
hole in the bottom

thick ribbon ( 8 inches should do)

thin ribbon (8 inches
as well)

1 jingle bell

paint

paintbrush

scissors


Instructions

1. paint terra cotta pot with any design you like and let dry

2. while paint dries, tie the jingle bell to the middle of the thin ribbon

3. when paint is dry, stick both ends of the thick ribbon through the
hole in the terra cotta pot and tie a knot inside the pot (the knot you tied should
not fit through the hole).

4. tie the thin ribbon to the thick ribbon, so the jingle bell hangs in the middle

5. ring your bell! :o)

** Craft of the Week **

Clip on your funny Valentine!
This craft is fun to make and can make a great Valentine's Day gift!


Clip-on Valentine

Materials Needed:



red and white
construction paper

scissors

crayons or markers

glue

clothes pin


Instructions for our clip-on Valentine

1. On your red construction paper draw a heart, hands, and feet.

2. Draw a face on your heart.

3. Cut out the hands, feet and heart shapes.

4. Glue the clothes pin to the back of the heart, in the center and let dry.

5. Cut four long strips (1/2 inch wide) out of the white paper-
(they can be as long as you like) two longer ones for legs, and
two shorter ones for arms.

6. Fold each white strip like and accordian.

7. Glue the arms and legs to the back of the heart, so they hang down
like arms and legs, and let dry.

8. Glue the hands and feet to the ends of them arms and legs,
and let dry.

9. Clip it on your sweetheart!

** Popsicle Flag **


This craft is lots of fun, and the American flag is just the beginning of the fun!
Your child can make up their own flag designs, too!


American Flag

Materials Needed:


9 popsicle sticks

glue

red, white, blue paint

paintbrush

silver glitter


Instructions for our Popsicle Stick American Flag

1. Paint 4 of your sticks red and let dry.

2. Paint 3 of your sticks white and let dry.

3. Lay your unpainted sticks parallel to each other about 4 inches apart.

4. Run a bead of glue about half way down the length of both sticks.

5. Lay your painted sticks in order (red, white, red, white, etc) on the
glued sticks and let dry.

6. When your glue is dry, paint your blue square on the upper left
part of your flag, and let dry.

7. When your blue paint is dry, make little lines of dots on your
blue square to serve as stars.

8. Glitterize your glue dots, remove the excess, and let dry.

9. Wave your flag proudly!

**Construction Paper Butterfly**


This craft is fun to make and can be made of mostly scrap paper!


Materials Needed:


scissors

glue

1 sheet of any color
construction paper

scraps of paper:
you could use (and we used)
wrapping paper cutouts
construction paper
doily paper
tissue paper


Instructions for our Paper Butterfly

1. Cut your scrap paper into the desired shapes (we cut circles from
construction paper and flower shapes from scrap wrapping paper, the
lacey part of doily paper,and misc. (non-geometrical) shapes from contruction
and tissue paper).

2. To make your butterfly shape, fold your full sheet of construction paper
in half and cut the shapes of half of a butterfly body and one full
wing. When you unfold your paper, you'll have two exactly symmetrical halves!

3. Now decorate it with your glue and scrap paper, and let dry!

4. Enjoy your lovely springtime art!

 

 

** Springtime Caterpillar **


This craft is cute and lots of fun to make!


Materials Needed:


green construction
paper

popsicle stick

1 inch length of ribbon

brown marker

glue

scissors

6 colorful pom poms



Instructions for our Springtime Caterpillar

1. Cut out a leaf shape from your green paper.

2. Color your popsicle stick brown.

3. Glue the leaf onto the popsicle stick so it looks like a leaf
growing from a branch, and let dry.

4. Glue your pom poms onto your leaf so it looks like a caterpillar
body and let dry.

5. Cut your ribbon length in half longways making sure to stop before
it is cut totally in half. (It's easier to handle as one piece) This will be your
caterpillar's antenna

6. Glue your antenna between the first and second pom poms, and let dry.

7. Enjoy your Springtime Caterpillar!
